Terms of Use

1. The service

ScanByte is a consumer utility for scanning, interpreting, organizing, and generating supported QR codes and barcodes. It may also request product or book information for a scanned barcode or ISBN. Results depend on code quality, device capabilities, network availability, and third-party data.

2. Your responsibility

You are responsible for checking scanned content before opening a link, calling a number, joining a Wi-Fi network, contacting a person, relying on product information, or taking another action. A code may contain inaccurate, outdated, unsafe, or malicious content.

You are responsible for content you enter into a generated QR code or barcode and for having the rights and permissions needed to create, save, share, or use it. You must not use ScanByte to violate law, privacy, intellectual-property rights, or the rights of others.

3. Product, book, and external information

Product and book details may come from third-party sources, including product databases and web search providers. External websites, search results, merchant information, and product or book data are controlled by third parties. We do not guarantee that this information is complete, current, accurate, safe, or continuously available. Confirm important details with the product, publisher, seller, or other authoritative source.

4. Current availability and price

ScanByte is currently offered without login, advertising, or an active subscription or in-app purchase. This does not promise that every feature or future version will always be free. If the business model changes, we will describe the applicable price and terms before charging you and update these Terms or product information as required.

5. License

Subject to these Terms and applicable App Store rules, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use ScanByte on Apple devices you own or control for lawful purposes.

6. Prohibited conduct

You may not interfere with or overload ScanByte or its services; bypass security, usage limits, or access controls; use automated means to probe or abuse the service; distribute unlawful or harmful generated content; reverse engineer protected source code except where law permits it; or remove proprietary notices.

7. Intellectual property

ScanByte’s software, visual design, branding, and documentation are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You retain rights in content you lawfully enter or generate. These Terms do not transfer ownership of ScanByte or our intellectual property to you.

8. Updates and changes

We may improve, add, limit, or discontinue features, subject to applicable law. Updates distributed through Apple may be required for compatibility or security. We may update these Terms by publishing a new dated version and providing additional notice when required. Previous dated versions remain available at their original URLs.

9. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScanByte is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee that every scan, generated code, lookup result, external action, or third-party service will be accurate, suitable, uninterrupted, or error-free. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profit, opportunity, goodwill, or data, arising from ScanByte. Any limitation applies only to the extent allowed in your jurisdiction and does not limit mandatory consumer rights.

11. Ending use

You may stop using ScanByte at any time by deleting it. We may restrict related online services where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or a material breach of these Terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive will continue to apply.

12. Apple terms

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for ScanByte or its support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. If ScanByte fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any, as provided by App Store terms; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for ScanByte.

Apple is not responsible for claims relating to ScanByte, including product-liability, regulatory, consumer-protection, or intellectual-property claims. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism and are not listed on a U.S. Government restricted-party list.

13. General

These Terms are governed by applicable law without limiting mandatory consumer protections where you live. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
