Privacy Policy

ScanByte · Version 2026-08-17

Effective August 17, 2026

Most scan content stays on your device. Your in-app scan history and favorites are stored locally. ScanByte sends a barcode or ISBN to its service when you use product or book lookup, and sends scan content with feedback only when you explicitly choose to include it.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how ScanByte handles information when you use the ScanByte iOS application and its related online services. “ScanByte,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the provider of the ScanByte application.

2. Information stored on your device

Your in-app scan history, favorites, selected app language, first-use state, and review-prompt state are stored in the app’s local container. Generated QR codes and barcodes remain in the app unless you choose to save or share them. ScanByte does not provide an account or cloud synchronization of your in-app scan history.

You can delete individual history items or clear history in the app. Deleting the app ordinarily removes data in its local container, although iOS offloading or backup restoration may preserve app data.

3. Camera and Photos

ScanByte requests camera access to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera frames are processed on your device and are not uploaded as images or video. If you choose to save a generated code, ScanByte requests permission to add that image to Photos. Apple controls these permissions, and you can change them in iOS Settings.

4. Limited first-party analytics

ScanByte may collect limited product usage and reliability information, including:

Analytics events do not include raw scan content. We do not place QR text, URLs, contact details, email addresses, Wi-Fi credentials, telephone numbers, barcode values, ISBNs, or other scanned payloads in analytics event properties.

5. Product and book lookup

When you scan a supported product barcode or ISBN and request product or book information, ScanByte sends that code to our service. Our service may consult third-party product databases and web search providers to return available information, and may show web results. Those providers may process the code and network information under their own privacy practices.

We may retain product and book lookup records, including the submitted barcode or ISBN, to operate and improve lookup services, understand coverage and reliability, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and analyze product usage.

6. Feedback and support

If you send feedback, we collect the feedback category and message. You may optionally provide an email address so we can reply. A scanned barcode or ISBN is not attached by default; it is sent only when you turn on the option to include it. Feedback is stored by our service and may be delivered to our support team through our notification provider for handling.

7. Network and service information

Our service receives information needed to deliver requests, including an IP address. We use an IP address to operate and secure the service and may derive a country code from it. Application and proxy logs may contain request metadata such as time, path, status, duration, request identifier, and client network address. We do not use this information for cross-app advertising or tracking.

8. How we use information

We use information to operate product and book lookup, answer feedback, understand feature use, diagnose reliability problems, prevent abuse, secure the service, and improve ScanByte. ScanByte currently has no login, advertising, active subscription or in-app purchase, AI feature, or cloud synchronization of your in-app scan history. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app tracking.

9. Retention and deletion

Analytics records, installation and registration records, product and book lookup records, feedback, and operational or security logs may be retained for extended periods for the purposes described in this Policy, including operating and improving ScanByte, product analysis, reliability, support, security, abuse prevention, dispute resolution, and compliance with legal obligations. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information, its purpose, operational requirements, and applicable law. We may delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed for those purposes.

You can remove local scan history in ScanByte. Because ScanByte does not require an account, we may be unable to identify a pseudonymous server record after its local identifier has been removed. You may contact us to request access or deletion where applicable.

10. Disclosure and third parties

We disclose information to service providers only as needed to operate ScanByte, including hosting, product and book data sources, and support notifications. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or our services, or complete a business transfer subject to protections consistent with this Policy.

11. Security and international processing

We use reasonable safeguards, including HTTPS, restricted analytics fields, request-size limits, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Information may be processed in countries other than where you live; where required, we use appropriate safeguards and respect mandatory privacy rights.

12. Children

ScanByte is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child provided personal information so we can investigate and delete it where required.

13. Changes

We may update this Policy as ScanByte changes. We will publish a new dated version and, when required, provide notice or request consent before materially different processing begins. Previous dated versions remain available at their original URLs.

14. Contact

Questions, support requests, or privacy requests may be sent to fingertipstudio@outlook.com.
